Primary Program

The children stay in the same class for three to four years until they are ready to continue to our Elementary level. Within this mixed age group, the child is able to develop at his or her own pace. The teachers help to foster a deep sense of caring and respect for one another and for the environment.

Each year in the Primary class, the children are able to deepen and increase their abilities by expanding their use of the Montessori materials. The Primary curriculum includes the areas of practical lifesensorial exploration, mathematics, expressive and receptive languagegrace and courtesy, problem solving, critical thinking and opportunities for productive development of the will. Lessons are also given in history, geometry, biology, geology, and geography. Art, music, and creative expression are integrated into all areas of the curriculum.

In their culminating year, the oldest children serve as responsible models of classroom leadership. They thrive developmentally as they act as stewards of the environment and kind mentors for the younger children. This culminating year is a year of consolidation and mastery of knowledge both academically and socially.
